To begin with, all of our group mates thought that the main reason to cause gender inequality is the education level “as to a person, if she does not have any knowledge and abilities, she cannot fight for any rights in their country” Gloria said. “Just consider the case in Hong Kong, average education level of Hong Kong female is high, so we girls can enjoy a quite equal society” Yuki said. And “Anson Chan Fong On Sang and Regina Yi Lau Suk Yee are two of the successful examples in Hong Kong” Hazel said. “So we can now make the hypothesis of the causal relationship between women’s education and gender equality” Phoebe and Dan said. However, after we did research from different kinds of statistics and information, such as books, newspaper, reports, in progress. We were difficult to prove that women’s education is the only reason or the main reason to affect the gender equality which slightly differs from our original hypothesis. On the contrary, there are two conclusions we can draw:
The same education level between men and women is not necessary to impact the gender equality as there are other factors affecting the gender equality.
Women’s low education level is one of the factors affecting the gender equality. At the same time, there are lots of factors affecting the education level of women. Therefore, to answer our research question, we would say: there is a causal relation between women education and gender equality.
For the first conclusion, besides the women’s education level, tradition is one of the main reasons to impact the gender inequality. Chile, Guyana, Japan, Nicaragua and Djibouti are the examples of showing this reason. In addition, the attitude of the employers also affects the gender inequality in Chile, Japan and Nicaragua. And gender inequality still exists as a result of Government regulation and religion in Guyana and Economic structure in Nicaragua.
For the second conclusion, we can understand that education is one of the reasons affecting gender inequality. Benin is a good example to show us that girls are suffering the unfair treatment in school. And in Djibouti, Only boys in their country can have the second chance to study while girls only have one chance in their life. Furthermore, we also found that there are some reasons which are affecting the women’s education level in a country. Just taking a look in the case of India, individual traditional values; the women’s family role and the poverty of a country are the reasons avoiding women to enter the school.
With the above conclusion, we concluded that there are still have the relationship between women’s education and gender equality but if we consider more widely, we can understand that it is a vicious cycle to cause the gender inequality. That is if a country cannot develop well, they will face the problem of poverty and poverty leads to the lack of resource and capital to develop the women education. As a result, adding to other reasons which mentioned in the previous paragraphs, women’s status becomes low in those countries. On the other hand, even if a country developed well, the tradition value is still one of the issues to affect the gender equality as the attitude of the citizens will be partial to male due to the tradition value.
Conclusion
